Beneath the Paint Surface
What’s underneath the paint on your truck?
Rust is part of life on a truck’s body. At 10 Four Trucks we often see trucks that have just had paint applied over the rust to hide it. This makes your truck vulnerable to costly breakdowns while on the road.
We Take Rust Seriously
I don’t know if you’ve seen the Air Crash investigations which end up discovering that a plane crashed because rust was painted over or even covered with an aluminium skin. Actually, there are several of these incidents that cost thousands of dollars and many lives because mechanics didn’t do a thorough enough job.
We deal with trucks, not planes, so the consequences of untreated rust are less likely to cost hundreds of lives… but they can still be extremely expensive when you calculate the cost of on-road repairs, towing, and lost work.
That’s why, when we see rust, we dig it all out and sand right down to strong healthy metal, use top quality anti-rust products to coat the edges, then weld in fresh panels and reinforcements so that when we return your truck it is stronger than the day it left the factory.
Recently, we were called to a breakdown. Most of the truck looked shiny and beautiful, but when we inspected the cracked chassis we discovered that while the paint was shiny, underneath the shine the fabric was rusted and worn. The workshop had been rushed, the owners had made it clear that they didn’t want to hear about any problems that might increase their maintenance costs and here they were… On the front page of newspapers across the nation being slammed for poor maintenance practices.
Not only did they have to deal with the costs of a terrible accident, the company also lost some major contracts and has struggled to rebuild their reputation every since.
